Green Waste and Firewood Cleanup
Branches chipped, logs cut for the fire, sections left clean — the unglamorous part of tree work, done properly.
Ask anyone who's felled their own tree and they'll tell you: the cutting is the quick part, and the cleanup takes the weekend. Branches are bulkier than they look, green waste trailers fill fast, and the Christchurch transfer stations charge by the load. Cleanup is the job everyone underestimates — and one of the most useful things we do.
After pruning, trimming or removals, all arisings are dealt with on the spot. Smaller material goes through the chipper, which shrinks a trailer-load of branches into a tidy pile of mulch in minutes. Larger wood is cut to firewood length and either stacked neatly for you or loaded out — your call.
Keeping the wood is popular, and for good reason. With firewood prices what they are, a decent-sized tree represents real winter heating. Hardwoods like oak, ash and fruit wood season into excellent burning; pine and macrocarpa season faster and burn well too. We'll cut rings to a length that suits your firebox and stack them somewhere sensible to season.
Mulch is the other by-product worth keeping. Fresh arborist mulch is brilliant on Christchurch gardens — it holds moisture through nor'westers, suppresses weeds and feeds the soil as it breaks down. If you don't want it, it goes on the truck with everything else.
Storm cleanup is the urgent version of this work. When a Canterbury southerly drops limbs across the section — or the neighbour's tree drops them across yours — we clear, cut and chip the mess and get the property back to normal quickly. Fallen timber gets made safe first, tidied second, and the details sorted once the pressure's off.
Questions we hear a lot
Can I keep the wood from my tree?
Absolutely. We can cut trunk and limb wood into firewood-length rings and stack them for you. Softwoods and hardwoods both burn — hardwoods just need a longer seasoning time.
Do you take all the green waste away?
Yes — branches, leaves, rakings and chips are all removed unless you'd like to keep the mulch for the garden. The site is left tidy when we go.
